After more than 30 years as a successful senior underwriting executive in the reinsurance industry, Ed Duess founded Duess Consulting Services, LLC in 2005. 

His keen analytical and writing skills, combined with his strong leadership and business development expertise, affords him the ability to provide multidisciplinary consulting services, not just in the reinsurance arena but in marketing, communications, risk management, audits and due diligence projects.  He offers a rare blend of creative, strategic planning and operational strengths.

Before starting DCS, Ed served as Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer for American Re-Insurance, and his responsibilities included management of the Company’s underwriting process on a worldwide basis, as well as oversight of American Re’s Underwriting Management Services, Home Office Contracts, and Account Services departments.  He was responsible for more than $4 billion in premium.  As a consultant, he had conducted audits for all segments of business for his clients. 

Working independently has afforded him the ability to fulfill his philanthropic and humanitarian goals. He is a member of the Advisory Board for St. Mary Medical Center Foundation, and he is a volunteer for the Variety Club—A Children’s Charity that provides support and programs for mentally and physically handicapped children.  

He is a student of theology in the Permanent Diaconate Formation Program at St. Charles Seminary in Philadelphia, and he is in the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program through St. Mary Medical Center.

He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Siena College, Albany, New York, and completed the Advanced Executive Education Program at Wharton School of Business.
